Abstract
Efficient subband structures that aim at fast adaptation of fractionally spaced equalisers (FSE), by exploiting the 'prewhitening' effect that a subband decomposition has on the spectral dynamics of the equaliser input are discussed. Two novel FSE structures are proposed. which differ in the extent to which the feedforward and feedback sections of the FSE are implemented in the subband domain, with distinct impacts on the updating. Improved convergence is achieved at a reduced computational cost compared to a fullband benchmark.
