EU and national regional policies in Austria

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Austria joined the European Union at the start of 1995, together with Finland and Sweden. The subsequent implementation of the Structural Funds, the European Union’s regional policy instrument, was to have a particular impact within the country. Over the period 1995-99, the country received ECU 1.6 billion in Structural Fund support, nearly half of which comprised agricultural support through Objectives 5a and 5b. Just over 40 per cent of the Austrian population was designated as eligible for assistance under all three of the Structural Fund objectives.
