Abstract

This paper reviews the literature on equity crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is a new financing internet-based tool where a crowd of investors pools together capital in order to support a specific purpose. We addresses how equity crowdfunding is covered in the literature, which fields of equity crowdfunding are dominant and what the future research avenues are. This is important because equity crowdfunding is gaining increasing attention as it is a substitute financing instrument. We take a critical approach, dividing the literature into those papers related to Capital Markets, Campaign Success Factors, Signals from Investment Decisions and Post Investment Development. Our contribution is in documenting the early literature in this nascent field of enquiry.
