Abstract

Childhood dysarthria has only recently become the focus of speech and language therapy research. Currently, only few approaches exist that have been specifically developed for diagnosis and treatment of childhood dysarthria. This article presents an online survey that investigated the current clinical practice of German-speaking speech and language therapists regarding the assessment and treatment of childhood dysarthria. The results show that dysarthria is not always the main intervention focus in children with neurological disorders. In addition, specific approaches to dysarthria are rarely used. However, the survey also identified ways that are useful and necessary to better prepare therapists for their work with children with dysarthria.
