Abstract
This report provides a summary of the progress made in an innovation project aimed at developing a renewable energy curtailment tool. The collaborative project spanning over four months began in June 2024. The primary objective was to create a modelling capability that could quantify curtailment in electricity systems, focusing specifically on the All-Island electricity system (covering the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland) and the electricity system in Great Britain (GB).
We successfully developed a tool that models curtailment policies for both the All-Island and GB electricity systems. A key achievement was building a prototype that takes user-specified input and provides curtailment levels. Throughout the project we have demonstrated the developed functional capabilities on several examples including a realistic All-Island system, demonstrating that the tool can handle many scenarios efficiently.
