Conversion of neutrinos in dense plasmas

Abstract

The conversion of electron neutrinos into either a tau or muon neutrino in a dense plasma, such as in the solar interior, is shown to be described by the Weber equation. We show that the problem is related to propagation through a potential barrier and is identical to classical mode conversion problems in inhomogeneour fluids and plasmas.
