Abstract

The chapter provides an overview of aims, legislation and action for reducing carbon emissions in Scotland by referring to the international reports (The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) and the Scottish Government policies on sustainable development (Scotland Performs; Scotland's Climate Change Adaptation Framework; Designing Streets: A Policy Statement for Scotland), legislation (Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009) and actions (National Planning Framework for Scotland 2; Planning Circular 2/2011: The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Non‐Domestic Microgeneration); Learning for Change: Scotland's Action Plan for the Second Half of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development; Conserve and Save: Energy Efficiency Action Plan; Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative; Zero Waste Plan; Getting the best from our land ‐ A land use strategy for Scotland; Low Carbon Scotland: Meeting the Emissions Reduction Targets 2010‐2022; Low Carbon Economic Strategy for Scotland: Scotland ‐ A Low Carbon Society; Low Carbon Scotland: Public Engagement Strategy; Home Insulation Scheme; Energy Assistance Package).
