Abstract

This entry explores the multifaceted meanings of care in contemporary society. Care has a number of connotations; it is affective, it is assumed to be moral and it is gendered. Care can be seen as a form of work, a form of labour and a practice that has been appropriated by organisations in order to help customers perform care or as a way of indicating support for progressive causes. There are numerous avenues in which a CMS sensibility can intersect with the complex and multiple features of care, and can help elucidate how and where contemporary society suffers from deficits of care.
