Abstract
(Bio)macromolecules may facilitate the formation of a variety of synthetic minerals. Here we will describe the various roles of cationically charged (bio)macromolecules in the synthesis of silica and germania in aqueous solutions, at circumneutral pH and under ambient conditions.
