Abstract
A distinctive approach is presented to the numerical modeling of pulsed nanosecond optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). In particular, an attempt is made to characterize and improve the output beam quality from the OPO and to study how this is affected by the subnanosecond local oscillations. The M2 beam quality factor is calculated for both the signal and idler waves. Increasing input power first causes a progressive deterioration in beam quality. However, at larger values of input power, beam quality either saturates or even improves.
