Battery energy storage converter for shipboard energy magazine system

Abstract

In this paper, the simulation and design of power converter suitable for shipboard battery energy storage converter is investigated. The converter can perform high-power charging and controllable discharging for the large-capacity on-board energy magazine. To provide unity generator power interface, a three-level neutral point clamp converter is selected as the active front-end. The bidirectional dual active bridge converter is selected to provide the second stage regulation of charging power of different voltage level. The simulation results demonstrate that the system can regulate power to charge shipboard battery, perform high power factor energy interaction with three-phase-supply; the bidirectional power flow capability of the energy storage converter is also verified through simulation.
