Assessing bacterial infection in paediatric palatine tonsil using mesoscopy

Research output: Contribution to conferencePoster

Abstract

Recurring tonsillitis inthe paediatric age group is one of the most common provlems presented to GPs in the UK, with an annaul reported incidence of 37 per 1000 population in the UK [1], resultin in tonsillectomy if >7 cases occur per year. Tonsillitis infections are complex to treat, this is likely due to the presence of biofilms. Biofilms are colonies of bacteria surrounded by a protective matrix are dificult to penetrate with antimicrobials. This research aims to better understand the nature of the infection using novel microscopy techniques.
