Abstract
Field results from a 132 kV, SF6 circuit breaker (CB) using a 2.5 GSps, 1 GHz bandwidth, measuring system showed that radiated transients contained distinct frequency components at 300 MHz, 500 MHz and 840 MHz. Using a simplified NEC based model of the CB, these frequency components are shown to be related to the physical size of the breaker switching contacts.
