Abstract

This half-day tutorial is for researchers who are relatively new to qualitative research; it will include discussion and provide hands-on experience of analysing qualitative data. The tutorial will begin with a discussion about qualitative research and data and then discuss some major qualitative data analysis methodologies, centring on thematic analysis. The focus of the tutorial will be on how to systematically use these data analysis methodologies to deal with qualitative data from interviews, surveys, and other textual sources. Tutorial participants will be provided with example an example interview and provided with opportunities to try out coding (a main method of qualitative data analysis) and discuss ways that they might be able to make use of these approaches in their own research.
