Abstract

Article on Alupka, Count Vorontsov’s very substantial country house in Southern Russia, built for him to designs by the English architect Edward Blore between 1831 and the late 1840s, with a surrounding landscaped park. The text is in Russian, but there are summaries in English, French and German, and this is one of the few good published records of a country house designed in Eastern Europe by an English nineteenth-century architect. The volume also illustrates some of the best eighteenth and nineteenth century pictures and other art treasures from the Vorontsov collection.
