AFRC_CORE 535: Measurement of Materials Micromechanical Properties with the ETMT

Research output: Book/ReportCommissioned report

Abstract

The Electro-thermal mechanical testing machine (ETMT) has been used to perform resistivity tests on the alpha-beta alloy Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr in order to better understand the phase transformations of the material. Heating rates ranging from 1°C/sec to 10°C/min were investigated. Furthermore, a T-T-T diagram was constructed for the faster heating rates on heat-up from the as received condition, and on cooldown from a temperature of 815°C after a dwell time of 60 minutes. For the slower heat-up rates, a T-T-T diagram could not be accurately constructed due to the uncertainty surrounding what the resistivity measurements actually portrayed.
