A smart meter based charging system for public EV charge points

The Agile Streets system is a smart public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network that uses the UK's secure smart metering system and a new business model to manage EV charging. The system incentivises EV drivers to allow a flexible charging schedule, while also saving on the utility bill of the charge point operator. The system demonstrated the shifting of the load demand of public charge points from peak hours to off-peak hours. The system has been successful in changing the charging behaviour of the trial participants, with the drivers thinking more about when the appropriate time to charge is, and some actively changing their charging time to benefit from the system.
