A planning toolkit to evaluate shore-side infrastructure requirements for electrified water-based transportation

Abstract

The development of electrified vessels servicing the smallto-medium-sized water-based transportation, commercial and tourism markets is starting to gain international attention. While these technological advancements are encouraging there is little consideration of the enabling shore-side electrical infrastructure, power demand, nor energy required to support the transition towards net-zero harbours. This paper summarises the development of a planning toolkit to allow enabling stakeholders to explore future operating requirements from several perspectives thus facilitating ahead-of-need shore-side enabling works.
