Abstract

C9H13BrN(1+)*I(1−) (MW 342.017) InChI = 1S/C9H13BrN.HI/c1-11(2,3)9-6-4-5-8(10)7-9;/h4-7H,1-3H3;1H/q+1;/p-1 InChIKey = YUWDJMUAMNDSDT-UHFFFAOYSA-M (reagent used in methylation of phenols, carboxylic acids, and thiols; acting as an in situ source of methyl iodide via self-immolation and minimizing competing SNAr processes) Physical Data: mp 201–202 °C1,2; 199–200 °C.3 Solubility: sol DMSO, DMF, NMP.3 Form Supplied in: colorless microcrystalline powder. Purification: prepared from a homogeneous solution of reactants in acetonitrile. Buchner filtered and washed with cold diethyl ether before being dried under high vacuum. Handling, Storage, and Precautions: thermally stable up to the onset of decomposition at 203–204 °C, as measured by thermogravimetric analysis under both air and argon atmospheres.3
