Project Details
Description
Development of a proof of concept of VR/AR CAD interaction system using natural and intuitive gestures, detected by infrared sensors. When using current mainstream Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems designers are required to accommodate an understanding of the capabilities of the CAD system rather than focusing their effort on the design concept. At DMEM we have developed a language of free form gestures creating the most natural and intuitive gestures for design, allowing designers to focus on the design idea, rather than the CAD interface commands. The gesture design language aims to enable intuitive and natural interaction with VR/AR system, using visual recognition rather than wearables or mouse and keyboard.
Key findings
Initial 16 gestures were implemented in the system, and a framework for further development was put in place.
