Description
Transforming Local Health and Care Services and Future Whipps Cross Hospital Bed Capacity
Key findings
Although initial proposals were to reduce the number of beds in the new Whipps Cross Hospital, in September 2021 the hospital agreed to keep at least as many overnight beds if that were necessary at the time of opening. This report is an opportunity for members to review the bed modelling. The report is divided into two sections: firstly, how the bed modelling for the new hospital was calculated, and a review of this modelling; secondly, how the outcome of this model will be supported by a transformation in community services. Two independent expert witnesses are also present to give further background to how bed modelling is normally carried out in the process of developing a new hospital. The report has had input from Barts Health NHS Trust, Whipps Cross, NEL CCG (Waltham Forest and Redbridge) and West Essex CCG.
