KTA - Feasibility study of applying CAD/CAM technology and process improvement in high precision dental solutions digital manufacture

  • Yan, Xiu (Principal Investigator)

Project: Internally funded project

Project Details

Description

Working alongside the largest dental lab in the country, a collaboration has been formed to enhance the company’s capability by introduction of simultaneous 5 axis CADCAM technology and incorporation and optimisation of the wider manufacturing process. This is aimed to increase the productivity and quality of the finished dental solutions. This proposal will apply novel research results and solutions derived two previous EPSRC projects to a new application area. Specifically, the feature recognition of scanned dental implants/moulds will represent an unique challenge to the previous academic findings in terms of the complexity of the dental shape, precision, sizes, tolerances and surface finish. A better understanding of the above will lead to better research an development problem formulations and an innovative design and manufacture solution will be generated from further funded KTP project, which is already under discussion.
