KTA - 3-D hepatocyte model systems for testing the toxicity of new pharmaceuticals

    Project: Internally funded project

    Project Details

The toxicty of novel candidate pharmaceuicals is usually tested in animals. Cultured liver cells (hepatocytes) are being developed for in vitro testing of toxicity in order to reduce and replace the use of animals. Instability of their functions in culture is limiting progress towards this aim. This project investigates the potential of a new culture matrix (Orla 3-D Cell Carrier glass matrix) developed by Orla Protein Technologies to maintain functional hepatocytes in a 3-dimensional configuration.
