Project Details
Description
The University of Waterloo (UW) and University of Strathclyde (UoS) are two world-leading institutions with a significant presence and standing in the global design research community. Both institutions have sizeable design research groups (91 academics at UW and 30 at UoS), with a strong track record of publications in leading international design journals (including Design Science, Research in Engineering Design and Journal of Engineering Design), funding from national and regional funders, and collaboration with innovation and manufacturing organisations. Both institutions are well represented within the Design Society, a major international body connecting design scholars and promoting design research as a strategic priority across academia. Of the 19 Special Interest Groups run by the Design Society in priority themes, six are led by UW and/or UoS academics – reflecting each institution’s reputation for cutting edge design research at a global level.
The requested GE funding will enable Dr Ross Brisco from UoS to visit Dr Ada Hurst at UW, to establish new research and knowledge exchange activities to establish a sustained design research partnership between the institutions.
