Students who took part in an Erasmus-funded summer research placement were surveyed before and after the placement to assess the impact of the placement on outcomes such as confidence, preparedness for dissertation research, etc.
Psychology students at the University of Strathclyde are given the opportunity to participate in a research placement in a European partner university over the summer between the 3rd and 4th year of study. In order to investigate the wider benefit of this placement, students were surveyed before and after the placement, with questions such as confidence in their ability, preparedness for further study, etc.
A significant finding was that students reported that the placement made them more confident in their research skills, particularly with regards to the honours dissertation.
