Project Details
Description
Led a successful interdisciplinary project involving social scientists, computing science and former BBC Blue Planet/Natural History Film- makers to explore the dynamics of plastic pollution in the media. Used innovative quantitative and qualitative methods to map news stories and public engagement with visual images through storytelling in news and popular media. Specifically, we explored messaging in adventure documentary ‘A Plastic Ocean’ (Netflix, 2017). The project contributes to policy debates concerning regulation and public understandings as well as wider debates about science communication, behaviour, and social change. Funder: Plastic Oceans Foundation UK/BUL £50,000
