Project Details
Description
The scope of the work was to investigate kinetics of thermal conversion of biomasses and chars in the International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) plug flow reactor. The objective was to determine kinetic parameters needed for devolatilization and char oxidation models that can be incorporated as sub-models in CFD-codes.
Key findings
Devolatilization kinetics were obtained for the two-step model at high temperature and high heating rate conditions, which can predict the competitive reactions in biomass devolatilization and the increase in the volatile yield under high temperatures.
The errors of devolatilization kinetics were obtained. It is possible to analysis the uncertainty arises from one of errors in the mathematical description. This set of kinetics is therefore recommendable for the application in comprehensive codes for large scale combustors.
