Beamtime at the core EXAFS beamline (B18) at Diamond Light Source, funded through Diamond Light Source.

Abstract of research proposal:
Here we intend to develop our ongoing work as part of the BIGRAD consortium which examines radionuclide interactions in the chemically disturbed zone of a geological disposal facility for intermediate level waste. Specifically we wish to examine:
- U interactions in formation of hematite in ICL
- U interactions in formation of magnetite in ICL
- Tc interactions in the formation of magnetite in ICL
- reoxidation of U in magnetite in ICL
- reoxidation of Tc in magnetite in ICL
- Biogeochemical interactions of U in a natural analog sediment - reox
- Biogeochemical interactions of Tc in a natural analog sediment - reox
- Monomeric and uraninite formation in model biogeochemical systems
- Silicate U interactions in long term alteration experiments
- Silicate U interaction in oversaturation experiments
