Project Details
Description
This project, conducted through the FEMM Hub in collaboration with an automotive partner, explores the viability of remanufacturing electric motor products by assessing its business case, environmental impact, and technical requirements. Using a three-layered approach, the project will first identify which products are most suitable for remanufacturing from a financial and sustainability perspective. It will then analyze the economic and environmental feasibility of these selected products using established assessment methods. Finally, the team will apply Design for Remanufacturing (DfReman) principles to improve product designs for better remanufacturability. The outcomes will include clear recommendations on which products to prioritize, the projected benefits of remanufacturing, and design strategies to support circular business models, with findings shared internally and potentially through a journal publication.
