AFRC_CATP_2015_Advanced sheet metal forming technologies

Project: Internally funded project

Project Details

Description

The project aims to:

• Identification of potential areas of interest in sheet forming, including what technology (which is expected to be flexible forming equipment) will support these areas. V1.5 28/10/21 Change – Perform a feasibility assessment including engagement with press manufacturers to determine what the market offering is and the opportunities / barriers to market adoption.
• Experimental demonstration of the EHF process as a cost-competitive alternate manufacturing route for forming high strength materials.
• To develop smart tooling for hot forming process to address the manufacturing challenges related to rapid(cost effective) forming and cooling of the complex lightweight parts and literature review on recent technology available in smart manufacturing and how these technology can be applied for sheet metal forming (both cold and hot forming technologies).
• Strengthening of the robustness of modelling predictions through enhanced testing methods for cold and hot sheet metal forming
