Project Details
Description
During this 12 month Fellowship, I am undertaking a project titled 'Scottish Initial Teacher Education (ITE): ten years on'. The project is a conceptual, normative analysis of ITE with associated proposals as to what Scottish ITE might be for and what it might seek to achieve. I will identify possible positions for ITE that have been articulated since 2010. The work is desk-based and utilises government publications, academic reports, research articles, print media (in English) and other sources.
Layman's description
The Donaldson Report was published early in 2011. It was the result of a Scottish Government funded enquiry into how teacher education across Scotland might be improved. The report made 50 recommendations, many of which have been actioned in the subsequent 10 years. However, normative questions about what ITE should be for and should seek to achieve have yet to be really considered. This piece of research will undertake to examine some of the literature in this area and make tentative recommendations as to where ITE might go next.
