Scottish Association of Minority Ethnic Educators Research Award

The Scottish Association of Minority Ethnic Educators (SAMEE) was awarded in recognition of my supervision and support of a project that explored the experiences of BAME women in leadership roles. The resulting work was published with the former MSc student as lead author, reflecting an intentional decision to rebalance power and privilege in the research process by foregrounding the voice and expertise of the student researcher.

Although this is a research award, it aligns closely with our Department’s approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in teaching. In particular, it demonstrates a commitment to inclusive supervision practices that empower students from under-represented backgrounds, promote equitable authorship, and model collaborative scholarship. These principles mirror our broader teaching ethos in PSH, where we aim to create learning environments that value diverse perspectives, challenge structural inequalities, and support students in becoming confident contributors to their fields.
