Prof. Yi Qin (FIMechE, FIoN, FHeA, CEng, PhD, MSc and BEng), a Professor in Manufacturing Technology and Systems, Director of the Centre for Precision Manufacturing, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Manufacturing Review, Associate Editor of the International Journal of Lightweight Materials and Manufacture, Secretary to the Committee of the UK University Manufacturing Engineering Consortium. His interests in research include Materials Forming, Micro/Precision-Manufacturing, Numerical Modelling of Manufacturing Processes, Tool and Machine Design, Manufacturing System Technology, etc. He was the Project Co-ordinator and technical leader of EU flagship project - FP6 integrated project MASMICRO for the development of an integrated facility for the mass-manufacture of micro-components (2004-2008) (36 partners from 13 EU countries, with a budget of 21 millions Euros), Technical Co-ordinator of the EU FP7 Polytubes Project (2009-2012) (17 partners) and EU FP7 Micro-FAST project (2013-2017) (18 partners), and wrokpackage leader in several other EU projects. His recent/current projects include EU Micro-FAST, LoCoLite, Counter-Fog, MMTech, SUPERMAT, LoCoMaTech, MicroMAN and M3DLoC project, EPSRC Micro-3D and AUTOMAN project. His main contributions to knowledge in manufacturing, to-date, include new design and numerical analysis methods for materials forming and micro-manufacturing, new manufacturing-machine/tool designs, micro-manufacturing system concepts, etc. Prof. Qin has published over 200 technical articles on various subjects in these fields, including a book on "Micro-Manufacturing Engineering and Technology" (published by Elsevier, 1st edition in June 2010, and 2nd edition in June 2015), 5 journal special-issues (edited as a Guest Editor), including a special issue on "Mass-Manufacture of Micro-Products" (published by IJAMT, April 2010) and special issue on "Multiscale Modelling of Multi-layered Coated Surface-Systems" (published by JMM, March 2011) . He is also an Advisor to the International Commercial Magazine "Micro-Manufacturing", and had edited newsletters for EU MINAM Platform and NanoFutures Platform. Prof. Qin is a Fellow of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Institute of Nanotechnology and Higher Education Academy. He has delivered plenary addresses, keynote speeches and invited lectures at more than 30 international conferences/workshops, including Keynote speech at the 2nd Asian Pacific Symposium on Technology of Plasticity (2019), 1st International Conference on Lightweight Materials and Manufacture (2018), 23rd International Conference on Computer-aided Production Engineering (2015), International Forum on Advanced Manufacturing Technology for Aerospace Industry (2015), NEC Manufacturing Exhibition (2013), 3rd International Conference on New Forming Technology (2012), 12th Plasticity Engineering Conference (2011), International Workshop on Nanosciences and Nanotechnology (2010), 6th International Symposium on Nanomanufacturing (2008), Cutting Tool Congress (2007), 11th Int. Conf. on Metal Forming (2006) and the 1st Int. Conf. on Micro-Manufacturing (2006). He has reviewed technical papers for more than 20 international journals, and a member of the scientific committee for more than 40 international conferences. Prof. Qin was the Chair of the 4th International Conference on New Forming Technology (ICNFT) (Glasgow, August 2015), and Co-Chair of the 5th ICNFT (Bremen, Sept. 2018).
