Personal profile

Personal Statement

I am a teaching fellow in Structural Engineering and Digital Design at the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. I joined the department in 2018 and I am also Year 3 Adviser of Studies, Student Liaison Officer for Institution of Structural Engineers and TRADA and student competitions co-coordinator. I currently teach CL313 and CL418 to year 3 and 4 students.

I graduated from Strathclyde University in 2007 with a Distinction in MEng Civil Engineering with European Studies (Italian Language). Being originally from Albania and having studied modern languages from a very young age, alongside my studies at university, I worked as an interpreter and translator for Albanian and Italian, as well as studying French and Spanish. Following completion of my studies I am also a professional interpreter for Italian.

Following graduation in 2007, I worked in industry as a structural design engineer until 2018, delivering numerous domestic and international projects of various uses and sizes in the structures group of engineering consultancies Buro Happold, Mott MacDonald and Woolgar Hunter. During this time I was responsible for the design and delivery of many domestic projects, main ones including the University of Strathclyde John Arbuthnott Building, Ravenscraig Sports Facility Centre, St James' Hospital in Dublin, East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington, Dumfries Learning Town, Defence Infrastructure Organisation Facility and several Glasgow City Centre office developments including Buchanan Wharf. Main international projects included King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture in Saudi Arabia and Libya University Campuses.

I am very enthusiastic and ambitious, with strong technical and digital design experience and expertise and excellent communication skills. I have a genuine passion for the engineering profession and a desire to inspire future generations of structural engineers.
