Personal Statement
I joined Strathclyde as a Lecturer in Translation Studies in 2023. I contribute to teaching in both the MSc Applied Translation programme (hosted at MEU, Jordan) and the MSc Applied Translation and Interpreting programme at Strathclyde. I am also co-lead of the Culture, Communication and Creative Practice research group.
I completed my PhD in Translation Studies at Durham University in 2022, where I also contributed to lectures on one of the translation modules. Before that, I taught English as a Foreign Language at Birzeit University and worked as an in-house translator (Arabic/English).
My research examines the connections between translation and cultural memory, specifically in the Palestinian context. I investigate the transformations oral history and cultural memory undergo as they are translated across different media and languages in graphic novels, museums, oral history archives, verbatim theatre, oral storytelling performances (hakawati), and illustrated folktale collections for children.
