Personal Statement

I am a Research Associate in the Department of Physics at the University of Strathclyde, working in the Marine and Nanobiophotonics sections of the Biomolecular and Chemical Physics group with David McKee and Brian Patton.

As an undergraduate, I studied Physics at the University of Dundee, where I worked on positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy with Prof. David Keeble and optical trapping of aerosols with Prof. David McGloin before undertaking a PhD on the topic of Conical Diffraction in the Materials and Photonic Systems research group under the supervision of Prof. Amin Abdolvand and Dr. Steve Reynolds.

My current research involves measuring light pollution caused by artificial lighting and its effects on coastal ecosystems as part of the national Artificial Light Impacts on Coastal Ecosystems (ALICE) project. Additionally, I work on low cost imaging of aquatic micro-organisms, such as micro-algae, as a means of quantifying water quality utilising 3D printed platforms and a range of microscopy techniques as part of a Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) project.
