Personal Statement

Stavros Nikou is a Lecturer in Digital Education in the School of Education, University of Strathclyde. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems focusing on Learning Technologies from the University of Macedonia - Greece, a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Houston - USA and a B.Sc. in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is also a collaborating research member at the SMILE (Smart Mobile and Interactive Learning Environments) Laboratory.

He has many years of experience in K-12 STEM and ICT education, vocational education, lifelong learning and mentoring teachers in ICT and technology-enhanced learning. Stavros has served as UNESCO consultant for the development of the ICT Competency Framework for Teachers. He is member of the International Association of Smart Learning Environments.  He is also ambassador for Scientix - The Community for Science Education in Europe.

His research interests include technology-enhanced learning, context-aware mobile learning and assessment, teacher education, computational thinking and innovative emerging technologies to support STEM education.

He has published in scientific peer-reviewed journals and international conferences (including Computers & Education, Computers in Human Behaviour, British Journal of Educational Technology, Computer Assisted Learning, IEEE ICALT and IEEE EDUCON) as well as book chapters.
