Motivations and barriers to prosthesis users (amputees) participation in physical activity.

Personal Statement

I have enjoyed employment at the University of Strathclyde for over 21 years and am a Teaching Fellow of Prosthetics and Orthotics in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. I'm involved in undergraduate and postgraduate course design and implementation related to lower limb prosthetic rehabilitation and the care of prosthetic limb users.

Expertise & Capabilities

I have teaching, research and knowledge exchange expertise in prosthetics rehabilitation, the professional aspects related to the care of people living with limb absence. I have experience of organising, facilitating and speaking at national and international rehabilitation medicine and rehabilitation engineering conferences. I have engaged with national and international media agencies in promoting technological advances in rehabilitation engineering.

Teaching Interests

My teaching interests are centred on lower limb prosthetic rehabilitation in particular the care of people who have trans-tibial, ankle disarticulation and partial foot prosthetics. I help students understand the professional skills required to work with clinical populations, in particular supporting students to enhance their communication and interpersonal skills.
