Personal Statement
Sara is currently employed as PDRA on the Future CMAC Hub Research Programme, within which her focus is Isolation and Purification.
Sara’s project is focused on the development of new analytical techniques to investigate isolation mechanisms and the correlation of particles-solvents chemical and physical properties and the process parameters. During this project she will design workflow tools for optimal isolation process development and conversion from batch to continuous process, assisted with modelling tools.
Sara received her Ph.D. in October 2018 at Strathclyde University. Her project was related to continuous isolation, filtration, washing and drying of pharmaceutical API. Her project title is "Developing strategies and equipment for continuous isolation of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) by filtration, washing and drying". During this period she spent 5 months in 2015 and 2016 at Astra Zeneca, Macclesfield, UK for an industrial placement. In 2018 she went to Roche, Basel, Switzerland for an industrial internship. She collaborated with ReMedIEs-AppB industrial partners, to develop and test a continuous isolation platform.
She is Material Engineer and she received in 2009 her bachelor degree from the Univerista' di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy, where her project title was "Design and characterization of structural adhesive reinforced with inorganic oxide nanoparticle for electronical applications".
The master degree was received in 2013 from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy where her project was "Symmetric diarylethene derivates:property-structure relation".
In 2008, she worked for three months at Imperial College for Prof. Aldo Roberto Boccaccini, where she worked on electrophoretic deposition to cover metallic substrates with biopolymers.
From November, 2012 to September, 2014 she worked at Politecnico di Milano, Chemistry, Material and Chemical Engineer Department, for Prof. Paolo Gronchi as a research grant from Italcementi S.P.A. During this period she worked for different projects: Study and development of new grinding aids (Italcementi S.P. A.); Development of diapers recycle technique; Study, development and characterization of corrosion protection coatings (Green car project); Study, development and characterization of superhydrophobic coatings; Study, development and characterization of polymeric composite materials.
During her PhD she won the SCI Scotland Group PhD Student Competition.
