Personal profile

Personal Statement

I am an academic in the Deptartment of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. My research interests are in the industrial application of (deep) machine learning, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things. I have strong interest in explainable AI (XAI) and hyperparameter optimisation.

Teaching Interests

  • EE106 Engineering Design for Software Development 1: gentle introduction to computer programming using Python.
  • EE320 Signals and Systems: signal processing concepts.
  • EE471 Communications Networks: foundation in communication and computer networking concepts and protocols.

Research Interests

My research focusses on the entire data processing pipeline from data collection and storage, through data cleansing, parallelisation of feature extraction approaches, deployable dimensionailty reduction streategies, hyperparameter optiisation and the production of machine learning models.

The work is carried out in tandem with industry, with application areas that include partial discharge localisation, predictive maintenance of moving equipment, intrusion detetcion systems, and deception for cyber resillience.

Expertise & Capabilities

I have experience and expertise in the following areas of AI:

  • Data cleansing and outlier removal.
  • Feature extraction for time-series.
  • Dimensionailty reduction techniques.
  • Production of (deep) machine learning based models.
  • Model optimitisation by selection of the best hyperparameers.
  • Data visualisation.
  • Explianable models.

Expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
  • SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
