Innovative manufacturing of sustainable composites using natural fibres and biopolymers

Personal profile

Personal Statement

I am a lecturer in Composites Sustainability in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. I received a Master in Polymer Physics, which was followed by a PhD in Materials Engineering and Materials Design (Polymer Composites) from the University of Nottingham. During my doctoral research, I developed a novel manufacturing method (thermomechanical forging) for the production of 3D objects, out of continuous fibre-reinforced composites which has been successfully patented. Before joining the University of Strathclyde, I worked as a research fellow and senior research fellow in advanced materials at the University of Nottingham for 8 years. My research focuses on development of sustainable polymers and composites, biomaterials and advanced materials for aerospace, automotive, packaging, renewable energy and healthcare sectors. Understanding processing-structure-properties-performance interrelationships for polymers and composites are at the heart of my research. I am particularly interested in developing sustainable composites using bio-based materials and innovative approaches for recycling fibre-reinforced composite waste.
