Personal profile
Personal Statement
Pernille Sorensen obtained her MScPharm from the University of Copenhagen, specialising in Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Pharmacy. She later completed a Diploma in Business Administration with a focus on Organisation and Project Management at Aarhus Business School, an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy at Robert Gordon University, a Certificate in Independent Prescribing, and a Diploma in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of Strathclyde.
Pernille worked as clinical pharmacist in Denmark to 2001 when she moved to Scotland. Before moving into academia, Pernille worked as a Senior Clinical Pharmacist with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, specialising in cardiovascular disease. She now holds a teaching fellow position within SIPBS.
Her research spans both clinical and educational domains. Clinically, she focuses on medicines optimisation, prescribing practice, and pharmaceutical care in both acute and chronic conditions, particularly cardiovascular disease and the pharmacist’s role in prescribing and polypharmacy. Educationally, her work centres on improving the student learning experience through innovative teaching approaches, including the use of personas to teach pharmaceutical care for older adults and exploring numeracy education by examining the gap between student performance and self-perceived competence.
Pernille is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is the Final Year Coordinator for the MPharm programme, module coordinator for Being a Pharmacist 4 (year 5, MPharm Programme) and for Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical care (the MSc Clinical Pharmacy), and contributes to the Independent Prescribing course as part of its teaching management team. Her teaching portfolio covers a broad range of Pharmacy Practice across all four years of the MPharm, the MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, and Independent Prescribing. She also leads on OSCEs and numeracy education for all years at the MPharm Programme
