Dr. Paul Hare

 

Senior Teaching Fellow in Italian and Year Abroad Coordinator, School of Humanities.

Teaching

 

  • Design, delivery and assessment of modules in Italian language and Italian history for BA (Honours), MIBML and CCEd programmes. 
  • Creation and maintenance of class pages for individual modules on the university’s virtual learning environment, including interactive activities used for continuous assessment.
  • Supevision of undergraduate dissertations.
  • Creation and design of new third-year History module on Renaissance Italy, to be piloted in 2023-24.
  • Pastoral and academic advice to undergraduate student.

 

Management

 

  • Experience as Subject Leader in Italian.
  • Management of Generation Global, and ERASMUS+ project led by SCILT, in collaboration with partner organisations in Denmark and Norway.
  • Successful reintroduction, development and management of the Certificate of Continuing Education in Italian (evening degree programme), following the creation of a viable business plan approved at faculty level.
  • Management and academic coordination of the compulsory year abroad for students of modern languages on the BA (Honours) programme.

 

Strategy and Knowledge Exchange

 

  • Editor of The Scottish Languages Review, an online journal published by SCILT.
  • Organisation of international conferences at different stages of Generation Global ERASMUS+ programme.
  • Delivery of papers on language acquisition and employability at national and international conferences.
  • Publications in the manstream press on language learning in Scotland. 
  • Collaboration with senior academics and managers in other faculties, in accordance with the university’s key strategy of internationalisation, to make the study modern languages accessible to students and staff across the institution.
  • Development of CCEd Italian as a platform for professional learning for secondary teachers of other languages.
  • Development of projects and partnerships with external organisations and stakeholders, including the University Council for Modern Languages (UK and Scottish branches), The British Council, The Scottish Qualifications Authority, The General Teaching Council for Scotland, Glasgow City Council, The Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools, the Scottish Association of Language Teachers, several universiities in Italy, The Italian Cultural Institute in Scotland, The Italian Embassy in the United Kingdom, other teaching units in other British and Irish universities.
  • Drafting of informative and promotional literature for prospective students and stakeholders (e.g. sections of university website and undergraduate prospectus).
  • Significant input to the University's recruitment initiatives in the field of modern languages, including central input to workshops for Senior Phase secondary pupils.
  • Design and delivery of national projects to increase uptake of modern languages at Broad General Education level. 
  • Representation of Strathclyde in a UK-wide working group on the year abroad for students of modern languaes.
  • As part of Scottish universities’ commitment to widening access, academic input to the annual summer school for modern languages, aimed at pupils from areas which, traditionally, have seen low numbers of young people applying to Higher Education.
  • Steering role in a pan-language working group for the university’s Learning in Later Life programme.

  • Literary and artistic patronage in Italian Renaissance Courts.
