Personal profile

Personal Statement

I joined the University in 1999 after teaching in Whitehill, Craigbank and Knightswood Secondary.

I was Head of Physics in two of the schools  and Assistant Head Teacher at Knightswood Secondary prior to joining the University.

I teach on the PGDE primary and secondary courses and also on the combined degree Joint Honours courses. I am the author of a number of school text books relating to physical science.

I was a member of the Physics Qualification Development team (2007- 2012) which designed the content, strucuture and assessment procedures for all Physics courses from National 4 to Advanced Higher. I currently act as a vetter for National Physics Examinations in Scotland.

I am an external examiner for the P.G.C.E. in Science and Mathematics for Teesside University via Bradford college.

I am a University Education Liaison Officer for the faculty and deliver talks to schools regarding entry and course choice for aspiring University students.

Recently I have established a centre for primary school science activities to improve the position of Primary Science in Scotland. Programme involves training "Primary" students to deliver small science lessons and then invite primary schools to come to the University. I liaise with SSERC and Education Scotland in this venture and the hope is this becomes a Learning/CPD centre in this area. Currently working on a suite of Masers level modules in this area.

I am currently writing an essential primary science text book for Primary teaching students for SAGE publications.

I am responsible of International recruitment to the PGDE and assist prospective international candidates considering and hopefully applying to the University.
