I have been a Professor of Law at Strathclyde since 2012. I am currently Director of Research for the Law School (from Jan 2019). I teach and research in the areas of Labour and Employment Law, Discrimination Law and European Social Law and Policy. My current research explores the relationship between paid work and unpaid care, claimants’ experiences of the UK’s Employment Tribunal system, the impacts of Brexit on labour and equality rights and civil society's role in governance. I have used a range of theoretical approaches in my work including Sen's Capability Approach and Fineman's Vulnerability theory. My research has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the European Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, the Carnegie Trust and the Society of Legal Scholars.
Member of the Equality and Human Rights Commission's Scotland Committee (2017-2020).
Member of the First Minister's Advisory Group on Human Rights Leadership which is advising the Scottish Government on Scotland's post-Brexit human rights and equality framework. Our final report was published in December 2018: http://humanrightsleadership.scot/
