Personal Statement

My background is in psychology, philosophy, and economics. As a PhD researcher in the department of Management Science (fka Strategy and Organisation), I am applying cognitive psychological paradigms to investigate the intuitive logics of scenario planning and futures-thinking. In particular, I am interested in mapping where heuristic thinking is employed, and how the resulting biases affect the process. As well, I am investigating whether the scenario has countering effects on biased thinking.

Along with my research, I am regularly involved with scenario workshops with George Wright and Ron Bradfield. Outside of academia, I lead scenario interventions in conjunction with structured analytic techniques to help Scottish Parliamentary divisions explore community-based policies. Like many, I am often involved in side projects and studies. I am quite interested in finding applications of scenario and related behavioural economic techniques to advance human rights policies and improve community standards.
