Personal profile

Personal Statement

I am a Chancellor's Fellow in Mathematical Modelling at the University of Strathclyde. My work focuses on using mathematical modelling to answer questions involving the interaction of fluid flows and solid structures at the microscale. I have been awarded the APS's François Frenkiel Award for Fluid Mechanics and the IMA's Lighthill-Thwaites Prize for my research.

My research interests include:
  • Poro-elasticity, hydrogel dynamics and swelling

  • Biomechanics of tissues and biofilms

  • Surface tension, elasticity and elasto-capillarity

  • Artificial microswimmers, micro-components and microfluidics

  • Fluid dynamics, particularly viscous flows and lubrication theory

  • Mathematical modelling, mechanics and asymptotic methods
