Research Interests

During my studies and later work in water management, I experienced several times how difficult it is to make accurate hydrological predictions for future water management plans.

One of the uncertain factors in this has been the strong and diffuse influence of humans on water resources. Water use is undoubtedly the most challenging parameter in the hydrological cycle to measure, as it varies individually and over time, and increases especially in times of decreasing water availability.

In my PhD research, I am investigating the impact of droughts on Scottish water resources and the changing water use behaviour in response to unexpected water scarcity. Water-rich countries like Scotland, which very rarely suffer from drought conditions, may be more vulnerable to extreme events than experienced arid countries and need their own adaptation strategies.
