Personal Statement

My career began with 10 years as a classroom teacher where I developed as a primary educator and realised my passion for teacher education during a 23 month secondment. Joining Strathclyde on a permanent basis in 1990 I have grown this passion, becoming  PGDE Course Leader from 2010 until 2015 (a course which currently has around 950 students), progressing to Deputy Head of School and now in my current role as Head of School,  leading a large and varied team of staff.

I represent the university sector on the Scottish Government Teacher Workforce Advisory Group, and am currently a member of the GTCS Working Group for the revision of the GTCS Entry Memorandum (for entry to Initial Teacher Education courses).  I represent Strathclyde on the Scottish Council of Deans of Education, which contributes to and influences discussions at national government level.

I am an integral member of a small leadership team in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences coordinating a number of international collaborations.

I regularly contribute to national and international conference and have led on a range of scholarship activities. I am a recognised expert in the area of Enterprise / Entrepreneurial Education.
