Personal profile
Personal Statement
I am currently a Chancellor's Fellow (Lecturer) at the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering. I received BSc and MSc degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2011 and 2015, respectively. My PhD degree was awarded by Unversity of Strathclyde in March 2019 with my thesis entitled, 'The Development of a Real-time Wave Energy Device Control Algorithm Based on Artificial Neural Network'. After that, I worked at NAOME as a research associate before transitioning to my current position in April 2020.
I was visiting researcher at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), Dalian University of Technology (China), Tianjin University (China), etc.
I am willing to supervise and work together with PhD students.
Research Interests
Much of my research over the years has focused on, but not limited to:
Marine hydrodynamics
Hydrodynamic analysis of the interactions between marine structures (travelling vessels, oil&gas platform, etc) through a self-developed boundary element analysis code. This research focuses on the hydrodynamic problem during a wide range of scenarios, e.g., ship-to-ship operation, wash waves, gap resonance between two travelling barges.
Hybrid offshore renewable energy system
Numerical and experimental investigation on offshore renewable energy systems, particularly hybrid wind-wave energy concept and multi-purpose platform.
Structural mechanics and dynamics - fatigue limit state, long-term and short-term ultimate limit states.
AI wave energy control
The primary research priority is to tackle the non-causality of optimal wave energy control. Two categories of solutions have been proposed and implemented.
- Utilize AI technology to forecast future wave force online and implement the model predictive control.
- Develop a novel causal control algorithm.
